6: Spiral Dance Finale by Magnolia Trees beside Pack's Tavern
Arriving at the Magnolia Trees next to Pack's Tavern, we realized the music from the Moogfest stage was so loud it would drown out our planned chant for the Spiral Dance. Praying for guidance, the Witch kicked her heel on something hard — a magnolia pod — inspiring her to stall for time by cleaning up the dancing ground. Then, just as Coven Oldenwilde's mummers and the many audience members who'd joined the Pub Moot gathered to begin the dance, the Flaming Lips began to play an amazing rendition of Emerson Lake & Palmer's "Lucky Man" — appropriate not only to John Barleycorn but to Stewart Coleman, as the Witch pointed out. Flashbulbs popped as the Spiral Dance ecstatically culminated to the song's seminal Moog Synthesizer solo, and we closed Asheville's first-ever Flash Rite by encircling the magnolias and grounding into the Earth our hopes, dreams, and wishes.
